Self examination: a key role in breast cancer screening- Ft. Dr. Monique Gary, Breast Surgeon
Overview
Although cancer can develop at any life stage, studies show that it is more common in old people. In a report on its website, the National Library of Medicine in 2022 revealed that more than half of breast cancer cases are diagnosed in females over 60. It also predicts that cancer cases will likely increase with people’s increasing life expectancy.
Of the various types of cancers, it is understood that lung cancer is the most common in males and breast cancer in females.
In this video, we will have insights on the importance of self-examination in breast cancer, and for this Medical Dialogues team interacted with Dr. Monique Gary.
Dr. Gary is a breast surgeon, educator, entrepreneur, media personality, farmer, and philanthropist. She currently serves as the Medical Director of the Grand View Health/Penn Cancer Network cancer program, where she also serves as director of the breast program. Beyond her surgical work, Dr. Gary is building a movement to achieve true health equity and help communities develop holistic and integrative approaches to cancer care and wellness.
