New Delhi: The data regarding MBBS candidates who joined this year can be uploaded till November 20, 2023, as the National Medical Commission (NMC) has extended the deadline for the same.
Although previously the Apex Medical Commission had asked the medical institutes across the country to upload the data by October 20, 2023, the deadline has now been extended after the Ministry decided to conduct a Special Stray Vacancy Round to fill up thousands of vacant MBBS seats.
Issuing a notice on Thursday, the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) of the Commission informed its decision to extend the deadline for submitting the data regarding the joined candidates.
"The schedule for opening of portal for uploading joined candidate has been extended up to 20.11.2023," the Commission mentioned in the notice.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that through a circular dated October 09, 2023, the Apex Medical Commission had asked medical institutes across the country to submit the details of the students who got admitted to the MBBS course during the academic year 2023-2024.

For this purpose, the NMC UG Board had set the deadline as 20th October, 2023, till 12:00 pm midnight. The Commission issued such a direction to ensure that all the MBBS admissions were made while adhering to the judicial decisions and MCI/NMC regulations, and to ensure that no admissions were made beyond the intake capacity, and to make sure that the eligibility criteria and qualifying marks specified under the Regulation on Graduate Medical Education, 1997 were being followed.
Previously, the deadline for completion of the MBBS admission procedure was September 30, 2023. However, thousands of MBBS seats remained vacant this year and ultimately the Union Health Ministry approached the Supreme Court bench seeking an extension of the last date of admissions to prevent wastage of 'precious' medical seats. Accordingly, MCC released the schedule for MBBS Special Stray Vacancy Round, which shall be concluded on November 15, 2023.
Already admission procedures including fresh registration, choice filling and choice locking, processing of seat allotment etc have been completed and the results for the Special Stray Round were also published on November 07, 2023.
The Commission clarified that it will be the last round of counselling for admission to undergraduate medical courses for this academic year. While the details regarding the vacant All India Quota seats are available on the website of the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), the Commission advised the candidates to contact the State Counselling authorities for the details regarding the vacant State Quota seats.
"ln compliance to the directions of Hon'ble Supreme Court of lndia in Diary No. 45004 of 2023 filed by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for extension of last date for admission of under graduate course in W.P. ( C) No. 76 of 2015, all the NEET UG 2023 eligible candidates are hereby informed about the extension of last date of admission of under graduate courses and to conduct a Special Stray Vacancy Round for the vacant MBBS seats of AIQ and State Quota. lt is informed that the Special Stray Vacancy Round will be the last round for under graduate courses for the academic year i.e. 2023. The details of the vacant AIQ seats are available on MCC website (www.mcc.nic.in) Candidates may contacl state counselling authorities for vacant state quota seats," read the NMC notice issued on November 09, 2023.
Notifying its decision to extend the deadline to upload joined candidates, the Commission further mentioned in the notice, "The last date of admission to under graduate courses may be notified as 15.11.2023 . The schedule for opening of portal for uploading joined candidate has been extended up to 20.11.2023."
