This emerging field is at the forefront of modern medical science, harnessing the power of radioisotopes and radiation for the diagnosis and treatment of an array of medical conditions. Key to its utility are advanced techniques like scanning, which play a pivotal role in the detection and assessment of various diseases. Nuclear Medicine is instrumental in the treatment of conditions such as hyperthyroidism, thyroid cancer, neuroendocrine tumors, and various forms of cancer.
As per a recent media report in Kvartha, both Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode Medical Colleges in Kerala are currently actively engaged in establishing the essential infrastructure for specialized scanning procedures, which encompass the highly sophisticated PET-CT scanning technology. The establishment of a PET-CT scan facility in Kozhikode is already in progress, as indicated by the minister, signaling a significant step towards enhancing healthcare diagnostics and education in the region.
The Hindu reports that it is expected that the course can be started in the next academic year itself.
