Eminent Cardiologist Dr P C Rath Assumes Presidency of Cardiological Society of India

Bhubaneswar: Cardiologist Dr PC Rath has taken charge as the prestigious position of President of the Cardiological Society of India (CSI) for the term 2023-2024. The official transfer of leadership took place at the organization's annual conference held in Kolkata, where Dr. Rath was appointed to lead the renowned society dedicated to advancing cardiovascular health.
Dr. P C Rath is a senior consultant in Apollo Health City, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. He completed MBBS, VSS Medical College, Orissa, 1979, MD, SCB Medical College, Orissa, 1983, DM (Cardiology) at Christian Medical College, Vellore, 1986; a Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at the University of Rouen, France, 1990 and a Senior Fellowship for Training on Coronary Artery Stenting at the University of Roune, France & Red Cross Heart Hospital, Frankfurt, Germany, 1994.
Dr. Rath has performed more than 20,000 Angiograms, 3,000 PTCA, 2,500 Coronary stentings, 75 cases of Percutaneous Trans Myocardial Laser Revascularization(PTMR), 500 Valvuloplasty, 200 cases of peripheral, renal, carotid Interventions including ASD and PDA closure, 12 cases of Drug-eluting stent. Dr. Pratap Chandra Rath has also developed Mitral commissurotomy along with Prof. Alain Cribier and performed the first 7 cases of mitral dilatation in the world using Metallic Commissurotomy. To his credit, he was the first surgeon in India to perform Venous graft intervention and Carotid stenting using protection device.
Speaking about his appointment, Dr. P C Rath told Medical Dialogues,"I have been a part of Cardiological Society of India for 30 years and a member of the executive committee for the last few years. I am glad that I got the opportunity to lead one of the most important organisations dedicated to cardiology surgeons and doctors. My primary focus will be to ensure preventive care of cardiological diseases and to make people aware of such prevention methods. We will also focus on the increasing number of cardiological cases due to diabetes. We will organize health camps and launch awareness campaigns to educate people regarding the importance of cardiological health."
When asked about his message to the successive generations of cardiologists, he said," Till now cardiology doctors concentrated more on curative measures to address the issues of cardiology-related threats on people's health. I would ask the new surgeons to concentrate more on preventive measures as it can help us to mitigate such threats very easily."
Cardiology Society of India is an assocation of cardiologists in the country.
